Adult Christian Education
Join your fellow parishioners and clergy in an informal setting to explore various aspects of your faith journey. Typically, the group quickly reaches consensus on a topic at the beginning of each gathering. They then explore following Christ in today's world. Activities have included more in-depth study of the Scripture readings of the day, discussions of approaches to prayer, practice of lectio divina, and trying to make sense of current events. The group meets on Sunday mornings following the 10:00 a.m. Mass after stopping off at coffee hour to grab a snack to go.
reflections at the rectory
Join your fellow parishioners and clergy as they seek deeper understanding of Jesus Christ through informative videos, discussion, and fellowship. During Advent, we will meet on three consecutive Tuesdays at 7 p.m at the rectory. We will continue our reflections on Jesus and who Jesus is to us. We will be using the book Evicted by Matthew Desmond to help open our hearts and minds to consider what it means to ‘stand with Jesus in the margins’ (as we heard expressed by Fr. Greg Boyle several weeks ago).
You don’t have to have read the book to join our discussion. Excerpts will be provided.
In January the St John’s Book Group will be discussing Evicted in a more content driven fashion. There is plenty in this book for us to consider.
The rest of the year, this group meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Rectory. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org; however, if you forget to RSVP, don't let that prevent you from joining us--just come. We'd love to have you.
