St. John’s Community Garden
We are proud to announce a new community garden!
We have taken a small portion of the lawn of Saint John's Episcopal Church to create "Saint John's Garden for the Community". Our mission is to use the output of this garden to grow fresh produce that will be donated to local food pantries which serve the food insecure.
We have two very simple goals; the first is to raise 1000 pounds of food each year and the second is to include the entire community in this effort, not just the people of Saint John's.
We now have a fully enclosed garden. The soil, beds and compost are in place and the fence is up.
We have also already planted about three quarters of the garden. We will be planting the remaining part of the garden in mid May. I'm also happy to report that about a third of the volunteers that helped to put this together came from outside of Saint John's.
We still have a lot to do, but thanks to community, we are doing very well.
We would also like to thank Episcopal Church Services and the Outreach Committee of Saint John's for providing the funds to build this garden.
